Randy Miller ran a quick initial 50 km and held on to win by 25 minutes. Two veterans, Keith Straw and Walter Bird, were second and third overall rounding out the top three coming in under 11 hours. The stage is now set for a runner to challenge the 10 hour barrier on this course.  

Two footnotes in the 100 km were the performances of Gary Ferguson and Hanna Ben-Shoan. Ferguson’s eight splits were between 1:30 and 1:36. It was remarkable pacing. Ben-Shoan impressed all with her strength through 87.5 km. However, she did not appear to have time for the 14 hour cut-off and chose to stop. Ben-Shoan’s courage and sportsmanship has a place in GLER history.

 

Javier Martinez and Ryan O’Dell came through the first lap in 1:02. Martinez then pushed the pace opening up a gap. Martinez held on to win by about 5 minutes as O’Dell had no more legs than Martinez for the final 12.5 km.  

Katherine Stettler had all the legs in the world however, running the fastest forth lap of all the runners! Stettler ran negative splits to overtake Jill Perry on that now famous last lap. Perry, a local 26.2 specialist, adapted well to the 50 km trail race finishing second.
